Rangefinders feel like rather complex contraptions at first, once you have an understanding concerning how rangefinders work, you will locate they are rather easy.

Laser Rangefinders use an unseen, slim laser that is sharp at a challenge identify the distance it is from the customer. The laser beam is after that reflected off that object and also back to the laser rangefinder instrument. The rangefinder after that makes use of a super broadband clock to identify the amount of time it considered the laser to recover and then utilizes a mathematical formula to determine the quantity of distance between the rangefinder as well as the target item. The whole procedure is called “Time of Flight” in scientific terms.
The normal rangefinder the typical person will certainly have the capacity to make use of will certainly range significantly much less than what you will leave the armed forces problem versions, however that is alright due to the fact that the typical individual will certainly not require near the capacities. For many people 1000 lawns will be sufficient variety to obtain the task done. Most laser rangefinders offered to the general public these days are rated to variety over of 1000 yards.
Though a certain rangefinder may state it is ranked to a particular distance does not mean that is just what you will certainly leave a rangefinder. The maximum distance rangefinders will certainly work will certainly hinge on the designated item’s reflectivity as well as the existing problems. The optimum ranked range is what most produces put on the box as well as is figured in ideal conditions on a reflective object. On deer sized animals, you will be fortunate to get 75% of the maximum variety as well as less compared to perfect conditions will certainly go down the efficient range a lot more. This inconsistency is much less with the more costly designs and better with the less costly models.
The distances at which rangefinders can efficiently calculate distances could vary from 100 meters to as much as 25 kilometers, and fairly perhaps much even more if the financial investment warrants it. Usually the extremely cross country rangefinders are built for armed forces functions and used by snipers and also weapons devices.
The majority of rangefinders will provide zoom of some kind in the type of a monocular (some are available in a binocular). The magnification usually varies between 5 and also 8 power. The high quality of the optics will vary with the high quality of the rangefinder, and also once again the much more expensive designs provide much premium optics clearness and also magnifying than do the affordable versions.
Quality and Price
Quality and also price have a straight connection with each various other when managing any type of kind of optics. Laser rangefinders are no different with price going up with boosts in high quality. There is likewise a noticeable difference between the poor quality and also top quality, as well as with laser rangefinders you most definitely get just what you spend for. That is why it is necessary to get the very best laser rangefinder that you could manage so there are no regrets.
Laser rangefinders are exceptionally exact. A lot of will assure accuracy of plus or minus 1 meter. That is more than close adequate for the typical individual and their needs, yet this might not be great enough for commercial design or army usage. For this, it is much better to make use of GPS variety finding techniques as well as triangulation equations.
Rangefinders have in fact been around for quite a while; clear back into the 19th century. Laser rangefinders in particular, being not virtually as old, have actually just become prominent to the typical person in the last 20 years approximately. They have actually been made use of by commercial and army operations for time currently, however these models were usually also huge and also heavy, and also method way too much for the typical person to use on a day to day basis, not to mention they are much too costly for the typical person to afford.
An excellent searching rangefinder can imply the distinction between your following huge prize– or going house vacant handed!
We looked at some of one of the most prominent versions among hunters today, searching for the models that deliver best in the areas that count. We combed blogs, testimonial sites, and online retailer scores to figure out which versions and also brands work best in actual life applications. In the long run, we’ve developed a couple of excellent designs to recommend to you! We’re positive they’re the leading options on the market, and our in-depth testimonials will show you why!
To avoid obtaining stuck out in the woods with a dud, it’s important to do the study before you buy. Although rangefinders all do the exact same job– calculating the distance in between the customer as well as an item in the viewfinder– various models vary in their accuracy, functions, and also abilities.
I have reviewed quite a few rangefinders, and have consistently recommend the Bushnell Tour V2 with pinseeker laser rangefinder (you can read my review HERE), so I thought I would take a look at another Bushnell model, but a little lower in price. The Bushnell Medalist laser rangefinder is another in the line of quality Bushnell products. It is a really good unit, but lacking in some of the higher end features of the Bushnell V2.
Lets take a look at some of the features of the Bushnell Medalist laser rangefinder. It is very compact in size weighing only 9 ounces and measuring 1.7 x 4.5 x 3.8 inches, making it easy to carry whether your are riding or walking. It has an accuracy of +/- 1 yard and will read distances up to 1000 yards. In reality, it is accurate at those distances only to a reflective surface, but it can still read distances up to 250 yards to a flag, sufficient for most golfers. One area where the Bushnell Medalist laser rangefinder doesnt quite cut it for me is the 4X magnification. I prefer to have a higher magnification making seeing and picking up a target easier.
I really like the feel of the Bushnell Medalist laser rangefinder with its rubber exterior. It makes gripping it really easy and feels sturdy. A little difference between the Bushnell Medalist laser rangefinder and some other models is that it is held in a horizontal orientation when shooting yardage. This is not quite as comfortable to me as the units that are held vertically.
Update:You can purchase the Bushnell Medalist Laser Rangefinder on sale at Amazon by clicking here.
Lets take a look at some of the Pros and Cons of the Bushnell Medalist Laser Rangefinder.
- Only 4X optical magnification making picking up yardage from long distances a little difficult
- The carrying case that comes with the unit is not well made and didnt last long
- Many complaints of the battery cover continuously falling off
Here is a review from a current owner;
J Barnett from Olympia WA
I purchased the Bushnell Medalist Pinseeker and love it! It is nice and light, uses a single 9 volt battery, which is nice. No charger required so I will just keep a spare battery in my bag. So simple to use, press the power button center the circle on your target and press the button for a second and bam you have your yardage. I currently have a Sky Caddie 2.5 GPS rangefinder and prior to that, I had an earlier model. The nice part about the Bushnell rangefinder is that you can get the distance to anything on the course, not just the yardages that Sky Caddie has entered, you dont have to connect to a pc and download course info and of course there is no annual fee. If you dont want to go through the hassles of a gps, get yourself a Bushnell Medalist!
This review has been paraphrased, for the full review go HERE.
If you want a good, easy to use, laser rangefinder, the Bushnell Medalist Laser Rangefinder is a very good choice. If you want a high quality unit with more features that make it easier to use, I still recommend the Bushnell Tour V2 with pinseeker laser rangefinder.
It is fair to say that the laser rangefinder has indeed evolved over recent years and this is entirely due to advances in the technology that is being used by the different manufacturers. The evolution of these rangefinders is certainly very interesting to read and in order to show how far they have come it is important that we look at mainly the technology that appears in them as well as improvements in areas such as the optics and even the magnification. By looking at these key areas we should be able to really track the development of the laser rangefinder and it may also make you think about how they will continue to evolve over the forthcoming years.
To begin with it is perhaps best to look at the origins of this particular item and even though there have been rangefinders around since the 60s, these earlier ones were not for the public domain and for the purpose of this article it is best to look past this and focus on those that were manufactured for the public.
Keeping that in mind, the first laser rangefinders that really made an impact on the market appeared in the 90s, but at that time they were slightly bigger and heavier than you will be used to today and it is also fair to say that they did not contain anywhere near as much technology as the modern versions. Instead, these earlier models focused mainly on just taking a single reading, but they were hampered by issues with the light conditions and their range, optics, and modes were also inferior to what you can buy.
The laser rangefinder has certainly come a long way in not even 20 years, but to show how far it has come we do need to look at the technology to see why they have made such a positive impact.
When are they used?
The laser rangefinder is generally used in two main areas with those areas being hunting and golf. It has to be said that the laser rangefinder does work exceptionally well in both areas as it does make life easier when you have some information on the distance that is left between you and your target to then allow you to work out your next shot. The fact that they are used in two different areas does mean that the technology contained within them has to also be different, but each part of the market has certainly evolved on its own resulting in new rangefinder reviews that are a level above those that first appeared on the market.
The basic technology that appears in them
After looking at the origins and how they are used, it does make sense to look at the technology that you can expect to find in both the hunting and golf rangefinders. In order to do it all justice it does make sense for us to look at them individually to allow you to see how your own specific rangefinder has developed.
When it comes to the golf rangefinder, then the manufacturers managed to make sure that this was different from the hunting version due to the technology focusing on being able to identify the pin and then take the reading. To do this, a number of manufacturers started to use the distinctive shape at the top of the flag and to take readings from that prism shape to then make sure that it was not a tree that was being measured.
For the hunter, then the basic technology that appeared on the first versions simply included the ability to take readings, but they did not tend to take into account angles or slopes that clearly have an impact on your shot, so it really was just about showing you how far away your target was and hope for the best. Just from this brief description you will see that things have indeed changed and it makes sense to now look at how things have improved over the years. One of the newer brands to have emerged in the market recently is the Buck Commander Laser Rangefinder, but as you can see most all manufacturers are covered here.
How has the laser rangefinder technology evolved over the years?
It is fair to say that technology has indeed evolved over recent years and in the case of the golf rangefinder it has improved in that it previously just took normal measurements, but the inclusion of pin related technology has certainly made a huge difference. Now, the technology that appears in golf rangefinders includes the ability to take continuous readings, take measurements to bunkers or other hazards, alter the readings depending on the slopes of the golf course, and overall the technology does mean that you should be able to select the correct club and stop misjudging your shot.
When it comes to the hunting laser rangefinder, then technology has improved to allow you to use them over a greater distance, it will take angles into considerations just as you get with Angle Range Compensation technology, the lenses will include Rain Guard technology, there are a whole host of different optics that can be used, and this does not even include modes such as SCAN or bullseye that just makes life a lot easier than before. Obviously as the laser rangefinder gets more expensive you are right to expect even better technology including greater magnification, the ability to vary the sight when using it, and even the ability to alter the amount of backlight you get to allow you to use it in the most terrible of weather conditions and all of this was not possible with the earliest rangefinders that were on sale.
Our conclusion here is different in that this has been about how this particular item has evolved over the years and it is not actually offering any recommendations for a specific manufacturer or model. What can be said, however, is that if you love hunting or golf, then you are certainly advised to look at buying one especially with them now being able to take readings in an instant, their optics being better than ever before, their ability to be used in virtually every weather condition, and the fact that they are more compact and lighter than previous models. The laser rangefinder has really progressed in recent years, but this just bodes well for the future where you can expect better things resulting in your success rate also improving.
Leica is a professional manufacturer of laser range finding products and it has been delivering top-notch rangefinder binoculars for the past 20 years. Over the years, the ballistic system integrated in the rangefinders has greatly improved, and this is also the case of Leica Geovid HD-B, an exquisite and accurate binocular that is perfect for shooting and hunting.
The Leica Geovid HD-B has an integrated ballistic processor that delivers all the information you need to improve your shooting – the high precision sensor calculates the air pressure, the angle temperature as well as the distance between you and the target, for an accurate and efficient trajectory. On the other hand, these rangefinder binoculars also allow you to store all the personal ballistic data onto a MicroSD card, based on the type of rifle that is being used.
Users can also choose their desired measurement system, be it inches or centimeters. The purpose of this data storing feature is to deliver personalized results for every type of rifle, to ensure accurate shots even at long distances. It is a known fact that the greater the distance, the lower the accuracy, but fortunately this is not the case with Leica Geovid HD-B.
The ABC function stands for Advanced Ballistic Compensation, and it is designed to help hunters aim a lot easier and with even more precision than before. The binoculars deliver accurate details in a matter of seconds, and this is exactly what makes the Leica Geovid HD-B a truly revolutionary concept in the field of rangefinder binoculars. Moreover, the binoculars also have an ergonomic design that make the device easier to hold, despite its weight (the rangefinder weighs around 1 kilogram, or 32 ounces). The 1,300 yards ranging distance is another feature that makes Leica Geovid HD-B stand out from the rest of the binoculars.
The Benefits Of The Leica Geovid HD-B
This rangefinder has a series of useful benefits, and despite the fact that the price is not exactly a cheap one (Leica Geovid HD-B can be purchased for around $2500, although the price vary from one store to another), the product is undoubtedly worthy of your money. The AquaDura coating ensures fast cleaning and very little maintenance in the long run, the sharp and high-contrast view allows the hunter to see the target clearly and without any interference while the generous and highly legible LED display delivers all the precious information a hunter needs to accurately determine the distance to the target.
Moreover, the display also comes with ah automatic adjustment feature that allows the user to adjust screen brightness based on the lighting conditions. The point of aim correction and the wealth of accurate calculations are two other benefits that no passionate hunter or shooter should neglect. At the same time, the color rendition is neutral, which adds extra visibility to the rangefinder, making it easier to operate. The fluoride lenses deliver high-quality, clear image even when the weather or light conditions are not exactly in the favor of the user.
One of the main problems with rangefinder binoculars these days is that they have a tricky and complex operating mechanism – the Leica Geovid HD-B comes with a two-button operation that is hassle-free. At the same time, the design is ergonomic and aimed at preventing hand fatigue even when using the rangefinder for an extended period of time, while the rugged rubber body of the binoculars ensure a correct and strong grip.
The product also comes with eyepiece covers that can be easily washed, removed and replaced and can also be attached to the neck strap, to prevent loss. Moreover, the expensive lenses are also covered with a special band that prevents scratches and abrasions and the neck strap is very comfortable to wear as it is designed to properly support the weight of the binoculars, and it is also contoured to fit the neck. Given the weight of these rangefinder binoculars, the neck strap is undoubtedly a great addition.
In addition to making the surface of the rangefinder binoculars very easy to clean and maintain, the high-tech coating is also designed to keep dirt and water away – Geovid HD is waterproof and can resist up to 5 meters (around 16 ft) under the water. At the same time, the binoculars are designed to function in extreme temperatures as well, and they are suitable for cold climates where the temperatures are below 20 degrees Celsius (Geovid HD-B can function at temperatures of -25 degrees Celsius or -13 degrees Fahrenheit).
The weight is certainly one of the main downsides of this rangefinder, because carrying it along with all the hunting equipment can be a daunting task. At the same time, the price is not convenient for all hunters, as these rangefinder binoculars involve a massive investment that needs to pay off in the long run. Geovid HD-B is not an investment to be neglected, but you make a living out of hunting or shooting, or you are very fond of these sports and you want to invest heavily in your hobby then these binoculars are a great choice.
What Do Others Have To Say About The Leica Geovid HD-B?
As many customers that have tried Leica Geovid HD-B claim, this rangefinder is easy to use, comfortable, accurate and with amazing optics – otherwise stated, the high price of the product is somewhat justified. After all, this is a professional product aimed exclusively at experienced hunters and shooters who want to improve their aim. The high range (up to 1300 yards) is another greatly appreciated benefit, keeping in mind that the average rangefinder has an average range of about 500-600 yards. Moreover, it delivers accurate information even in bright sun.
In conclusion, Leica Geovid HD-B is great if you are willing to spend extra money on quality. This rangefinder is packed with useful features – add amazing optics and ergonomics to that and you have a pair of rangefinder binoculars that will help you get the trophy of the year in no time. This is a piece that hunting connoisseurs will certainly appreciate.
